After being linked to several teams during the offseason, including the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks, unrestricted free agent defenceman Sami Vatanen has found a new home. However, it's not exactly new. Vatanen has signed a deal with the New Jersey Devils, where he spent parts of the last three seasons. It's a one year contract worth $2 million.

Vatanen was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes last season but was injured at the time. He did not suit up for the Canes until the post season, where he played seven games and recorded three assists. Vatanen was one of the more high-profile free agents on the market, especially among blueliners.

Vatanen was intially a fourth round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks. He originally signed with the Devils as a free agent in 2016 before the trade to Carolina.
