This General Manager has just infuriated his fan base with his comments on star talent, making them feel like he doesn't care about the teams' success.
Kent Hughes Shares Thoughts On Star Talent in the NHL
The Montreal Canadiens are a team that has been on the verge of making the next step into cup contention for a few years now. Despite having a good pool of talent on the roster, many believe they still need to add a few star players in order to make the jump into contention.
However, it appears General Manager Kent Hughes doesn't believe that to be the case. He recently let the media know his feelings about Star Talent, looking at how that has helped the current Edmonton Oilers.
"I am transcribing an interview with Kent Hughes, so for now two interesting statements:
"Everybody wants McDavid and Draisaitl, we'd love to have them too, but only two players have never won SC by themselves."
"Do we need a star? Edmonton is at the bottom of the table with two of the biggest stars in the league."
Kent Hughes' Statement Makes Fans Believe He Isn't Interested in Finding a Star for the Canadiens
The Oilers are definitely struggling despite having two of arguably the best players in the NHL. However, the statement has infuriated fans who believe that the Canadiens could use some star talent to get them over the hump.
"And meanwhile we're at the bottom with no star so who's the fool" -kent thoughts
I really hope this was just a statement to calm the media a bit and not how he thinks, because all this proves is that getting a stat doesn't guarantee a cup. Every team thats won a cup has stars
Obviously, it takes a tremendous amount of talent for a team to win the Stanley Cup. While there are different philosophies on how to spread that talent around, it's pretty clear that you need some goal-scoring stars to get you there. We will see if Kent Hughes and his philosophy can get Montreal to a Stanley Cup.
DO YOU THINK NHL STARS ARE OVERRATED IN TERMS OF HELPING THEIR TEAMS WIN STANLEY CUPS?
