Report: Pacioretty not the only player Vegas fielding calls on

It seems Vegas Golden Knights players are a hot commodity on the trade market now that the NHL has a more definitive date for the start of the 2020-21 season. Earlier this week, TSN reported that the team was fielding calls on sniper Max Pacioretty and it was very possible he would be moved before or during the upcoming season. A report from Jesse Granger of The Athletic states at least two other players are getting a lot of interest.

"...sources confirmed to The Athletic that the Golden Knights have indeed spoken to teams about possibly moving Pacioretty and his $7 million cap hit, as well as veterans Jonathan Marchessault and Marc-Andre Fleury."

The Golden Knights have been attempting to move Fleury for a while to free up cap space after signing free agent Alex Pietrangelo to a seven-year, $61.6 million contract in October. Vegas is currently about $1 million over the cap limit, with training camp rumoured to start early in the new year. Fleury and Marchessault are part of the original Golden Knights. Both were picked up in the team's expansion draft in 2017.

"Any of these trades would be an attempt to shed even more salary for Vegas, so while Pacioretty, Marchessault and Fleury's names have all been floated, the most likely outcome is that only one is actually moved, if that," write Granger.

For what it's worth, Granger believes trading Pacioretty would be the wrong move for Vegas.

"Not only did Pacioretty lead all Golden Knights with 32 goals last season, but he's without a doubt the best pure scorer on a roster that lacks that specialty for the most part," said Granger. "Don't get me wrong, Vegas has plenty of offensive talent. But of the top players, Pacioretty is really the only one whose primary skill is shooting the puck."
