17-year-old may not walk again after hit during U18 game
Members of the hockey community, including current and former NHLers, are rallying around 17-year-old Brian Page as the member of the Philadelphia Little Flyers U18 club takes part in the fight of his life. According to a GoFundMe page set up by a teammate, Page took a really hard hit at the blue line during a game on Sunday and suffered some terrible injuries.
"The doctor's prognosis for Brian was that he had broken his c-5 and c-6 vertebrae, along with damaging his spinal cord," reads the page set up by Corey Owens. "The doctors also believe that he might not have the ability to walk again."
So far, the response has been phenomenal, with more than $100,000 raised to aid Brian and his family in his recovery. The GoFundMe page and words of encouragement have been Tweeted by former NHL goaltender turned analyst Brian Boucher, NHL defenceman Tony DeAngelo and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.
The goal of the GoFundMe page is to raise $500,000 for Page and his family.
