The Colorado Avalanche took a major step back in 2022-23 after their Cup win a season before, and while there were many reasons for this, losing their captain Gabriel Landeskog for the season was a major reason why.

Another lost season

Unfortunately for Landeskog and the Avalanche, he will be missing the entire 2023-24 season as well, and that's raised the question, should the Avalanche name a new captain for the upcoming season?

According to Head Coach Jared Bednar however, that won't be happening, as Landeskog is their leader, and they won't be naming a new captain in his absence, as he's expected to be back on the ice one day.

Yeah I've thought about it, but I'm not going to do that.

A respected veteran

Given how respected Landeskog is within Colorado and around the league, keeping the C on his chest is a major sign of just how important he is to this team, and with leaders like Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and others, this team will be fine without an official captain on the ice.

In 738 career games with the Avalanche, Landeskog has been a fantastic leader and a solid player, posting 248 goals and 571 points while leading them to their third Stanley Cup in franchise history, and this is another major indication that he'll be back one day.
