Dallas' General Manager Jim Nill has released this statement as well:

"Doug was a scout's scout. He knew the league and the players as well as anyone in the business. His role in helping build the ‘99 championship team can't be overstated, and he will be missed by the entire hockey community."

Doug Overton spent over 18 years with the Dallas Stars organization and played a major role in helping them draft some of their best players, past and present. Their current captain Jamie Benn was a fifth-round pick during the 2007 draft. Trevor Daley (43rd in 2002), Jussi Jokinen (192nd in 2001), Roope Hintz (49th in 2015), Jason Robertson (39th in 2017), and Jake Oettinger (26th in 2017) picks would all have likely been influenced by Doug Overton.

We at MarkerZone would like to send our condolences to Doug's family, colleagues, and friends during this difficult period of time.
