Phil Kessel is one of the most high-profile free agents left on the market at the moment. Things have been pretty quiet on his next potential team. Today we have some new updates on what contract Kessel might sign.

Kessel Willing To Give Up Streak

It was reported earlier this month by Elliotte Friedman that Phil Kessel would be willing to give up his streak to continue playing.

Friedman on NHL Network reports Phil Kessel has indicated to teams that he is willing to end his streak, understands he may not be an 82-game, everyday player anymore, cause of this more teams are showing interest, could potentially get a PTO.

Friedman mentioned that the steak was a big point of contention for teams when considering Kessel. This led many to believe he would be signed quickly. However, that has not happened leaving many to wonder if Phil Kessel will have to resort to a PTO (Player Tryout).

No Tryout Needed

According to a new report from NHL insider Chris Johnston Kessel likely will not have to settle for a PTO this season.

It sounds like there's some percolating interest from NHL teams in signing Phil Kessel to a contract for this season.

The veteran forward isn't in PTO territory at this juncture.

Phil Kessel will bring veteran leadership and championship pedigree to whatever team ends up signing him. On top of those intangibles, Kessel is still pretty good with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone. The cap hit will likely be the determining factor for where Kessel ends up playing his hockey this season.

Over the next few weeks, a lot of eyes will be on any conversations he has with potential suitors.
