After Treliving got his first big fish extended in Auston Matthews as he signed a record breaking 4-year $13.25 million per season which makes him the highest paid player in NHL history.
With Matthews done all eyes are focusing on William Nylander after he came off a 40-goal 87-point campaign. Nylander is looking for a pay raise but it does not seem likely that Treliving and the Leafs will be able to reach his demands.
Recently, Nylander spoke to the media on the topic and revealed why he believes their is no rush to get the deal done.
There seems to be an even bigger divide between both parties after Treliving dissed Nylander.
At the Matthews' extension press conference Brad Treliving and Matthews discussed the contract that Matthews signed. Treliving had a quote that has a deeper meaning.
With Nylander's nonchalant attitude about his extension, this comment be the GM of the Leafs definitely looks to be targeted towards Nylander.
Time is ticking on the extension to keep Nylander in Toronto if no contract is signed by the deadline we could see the Leafs and Nylander part ways.
