It was an interesting season for the Vancouver Canucks, who couldn't seem to settle on a direction. Now, they might be in jeopardy of losing one of their best young stars.
Pettersson Won't Talk Contract Extension
According to Elias Pettersson's agent, the young Swedish star won't engage in any contract extension talks with the Canucks until the end of the summer.
Pettersson is entering the final year of a three-year deal that pays him $7.35 million annually. Coming off of a 102-point season, the young star is certainly due for a raise.
The longer it takes for Vancouver to get him locked up, the more it will likely cost them.
Should Vancouver Move Pettersson?
It's been incredibly hard to read which direction Vancouver wants to go in with their organization, so it's hard to say if Pettersson is in their plans for the future.
If they do decide to rebuild, he would almost certainly be the asset that would yield the highest return in a trade. Pettersson, along with defenseman Quinn Hughes, would be two incredibly intriguing options on the back end.
