Sad news in the world of hockey as an 18-year professional hockey player Leo Insam passed away Sunday night at the age 48.

Insam's career

Insam last played in the 2010-11 season playing dense for Gherdeina.

Insam spent the majority of his 18-year career in Italy with Gherdeina, Asiago, Milano and HC Bolzano. He also spent 2 seasons in Germany playing for Dusseldorfer EG and 1 in Austria with EC-KAC.

In 381 games in Italy Insam put up 75 goals and 133 points, in his 2 years in Germany Insam had 35 points in 80 games.

The 6-foot-5 defenseman also played on the international stage playing in 6 world championships and two Winter Olympics playing 90 international games with 13 points in that span.
