Buyouts are never a favourable situation for a team. While cap relief is great, paying for a player who isn't on the roster isn't very desirable.
Unfortunately for the Dallas Stars, they may have no choice.
Suter Buyout is a Possibility
When the Dallas Stars signed
Ryan Suter to a four-year, $3.65-million AAV deal, fans were skeptical.

The
turnover machine has two years left on his deal, and calls for a buyout are pretty prominent.
«If you take a look at his contract, to buy it out it's not expensive. It's 4 more years and it's just under $800k for the first 2 years and about $1.5M for the last 2 years. I wonder if they think about it, but again,
Ryan Suter is a guy who played a lot of minutes for them, he's Heiskanen's partner, what are you doing there, how are you replacing those minutes?»
Two-Buyout Player?
Suter was notably bought out by the Minnesota Wild as well, and I don't believe any player has ever been bought out twice.
With things going the way they are, and the buyout looking so favourable for the Stars, he could very well be the first.
