Mike Babcock Emerges as Front-Runner to Coach a Surprising Eastern Conference Team

Mike Babcock is known for his physical coaching style and coaching well-disciplined teams. This is very enticing to any team in the league but it looks like one is finally ready to bring him back to the NHL after Babcock's absence amid allegations of a toxic work environment.

This is huge news for Columbus because they are a team in desperate need of direction and a coach like Babcock could provide that for them.

What Babcock could do for Columbus

Columbus has lots of talent with the likes of Johnny Gaudreau, Patrik Laine, Kent Johnson, and Zach Werenski. The Blue Jackets also have the third overall pick in this year's draft which will be another very skilled player whether that is Leo Carlsson, Matvei Michkov, or Will Smith.

However, they have been poorly coached and injury-riddled leading to them finishing 2nd to last place, which is terrible. Babcock would instill a system that works at the NHL level and has resulted in Stanley Cups.

While Columbus is a long way away from the cup, they could very well make the playoffs if everything is executed perfectly.
