The Leafs and the Canadiens are known for being the largest rivalry in hockey with the two most passionate fan bases. It looks like the Leafs want a former Habs GM.

Former Rival GM Emerges as a Front-Runner for the Job in Toronto

Marc Bergevin had an interesting tenure in Montreal. From building a team that made the NHL finals one year to finishing dead last the next, Bergevin has reached the 2nd highest high and the lowest low.

After being relieved of his duties in Montreal last year, Bergevin has been looking to be the GM of another team recently. One of the teams that have expressed interest in Bergevin is the Canadiens' rival Maple Leafs.

On the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman said this regarding Bergevin:

Mark Hunter was a former GM for the Leafs but the main interesting part is Bergevin.

Bergevin knows how to deal with everything that comes with being in a big market and could potentially know how to handle everything much better.

Is Bergevin The Best Fit For Toronto?

He is an interesting fit, maybe not the best one but surely an interesting one. Bergevin has made some great moves and some not-so-great moves and knowing how to handle a big market is definitely a positive.

If the Leafs want somebody who can make bold moves and do what they think is best, Bergevin is the guy but it will be hard to tell what Brendan Shanahan would think of that. Shanahan will want somebody who will take orders and Bergevin may not be the best person for that.
