Shane Wright was supposed to be the 1st overall pick in last year's NHL entry draft, but a wild turn of events saw him slip to 4th overall. After a wild season that saw him get scratched for games on end in the NHL, light it up in the AHL, win gold with Canada at the World Juniors, then return to the OHL to finish his season, Kraken GM Ron Francis has some words for the young player.

Francis Sends Ambigious Message to Wright

Kraken GM Ron Francis was recently asked about Shane Wright and the likelihood of him sticking in the NHL next year as opposed to getting sent down. Francis responded in a rather cold way, stating the following.

"Going to come down to Shane and how hard he works in the summertime" - Ron Francis

While this is a reasonable thing to say, Francis was largely blamed for the botched handling of Wright's first development year post-draft.

Bust in the Making?

If Wright cannot stick in the NHL, we're almost certainly going to here people calling the young center a bust. It's expected that top prospects play in the NHL as soon as possible, and after falling three spots in the draft, another year in the OHL could seriously hurt his confidence and his chances of becoming an NHLer.

Hopefully, for Wright's sake, he can put it all together and have a successful year next year.
