David Pagnotta, an NHL Network analyst, tweeted:
Kopitar was drafted by the LA Kings 11th overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. The 36 year old is one of the few current players who has played for one franchise their entire career.
The LA Kings were upset by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The team's captain has 393 goals and 748 assists in 1,292 games with LA. He was also a member of the Kings' only two Stanley Cup winning teams.
