Many Washington Capitals players are probably still sour after they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

The management made a few important moves at the trade deadline that indicated a partial rebuild of the organization.

Even if the core of leaders is still there, many things changed that day and more changes are expected to happen during the summer.

They don't really have a choice if they want to be competitive again next season.

One of the players that could move at the next deadline, if not this summer, is Tom Wilson. The enforcer will start the last year of his 6-year contract and will be eligible for an extension on July 1st.

If the Caps make a rebuild, they'll have to decide if they want Wilson to be a part of the solution or if they part ways with him. Wilson gave his opinion on the matter.

Wilson Breaks the Silence Regarding His Future in Washington

In a recent declaration, he showed all his love for the team and expressed his wishes to stay with the Caps.

"I'm not a guy that's going to play hardball or say that I don't want to be here. Everyone knows I love it here and want to be here.

No matter what happens, I want to help this city win games and think, who knows what's going to happen over the summer into next year, but I think if I do my job and we start winning games and the team's playing well, there's not going to be a lot of question marks. You're in the playoffs, playing well, things take care of themselves.

Obviously, there's a business part of it where stuff can happen and different outside things can, whether it's me or the team or whatever, happen. You never know.

But for me, I just can't imagine ever playing for any other team. I don't want that to happen. Weirder things have happened. It's part of the game and it's part of being an athlete. I like it here and hopefully it sorts itself out."

So, there you have it! Wilson wants to stay in Washington and he'll do everything he can to remain there.

The 29-year-old still has some good hockey left in him, and if the Caps decide to trade him, they could get a great return for him.
