NHL shuts down Leafs attempt to circumvent salary cap
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been at or near the salary cap for most of the season and tonight, thats put them in an uncomfortable position .
Before the Leafs take on the Florida Panthers tonight, they attempted to use an emergency recall to get Joseph Woll to backup tonight, unfortunately the NHL said no.
Instead that had to sign another player to an amateur try out because they were too close to the cap:
Signing top prospect Matthew Knies was imperative yesterday, but they have made themselves, but now they can't call anyone up .
This situation is a lot like the New York Rangers around the trade deadline. The NHL says they, being the Leafs, created this situation with the Knies signing and so they can't use the AHL.
is anyone else tired of this, it's Bettman's world and we just have to suffer through it.
