Just shy of his twentieth birthday in June, Barrie Colts goaltender and Arizona Coyotes prospect Anson Thornton had a night he won't soon forget during his teams Ontario Hockey League playoff game against the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Champions, Hamilton Bulldogs.
-
Late in the third period with the Colts leading 3-1, the Bulldogs with their goaltender pulled for an extra attacker dumped the puck deep in Barrie's zone. Thornton skated behind his net to collect the puck and took a shot towards Hamilton's net.
The puck hit the centre of the net as the clock ticked down. The goal, will go down in history as the first goal scored by a goaltender in Barrie Colts history and the first goalie goal in the Ontario Hockey League since Dylan Wells who played for the Peterborough Petes at the time scored a goal during the 2017 playoffs versus the Kingston Frontenacs.
With the win, the Barrie Colts lead the series 3-2.
