Timo Meier Absolutely SMOKES Erik Cernak

When New Jersey traded for Timo Meier, it wasn't just to score goals.

Once he was added to the Devils' roster, he immediately led the team in Hits with 112; only to have his hit-crown usurped by F Curtis Lazar a couple days later. It's pretty clear what GM Tom Fitzgerald was looking to add at the trade deadline.

He has made his physical presence felt early on. In his first 5 games, Meier has thrown out 12 hits with more in Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Including this beauty on D Erik Cernak:

Cernak needed to retreat to the locker room immediately following the hit but returned soon after with no harm done.

The 6'4'', 224 lb defenseman is no slouch either. Cernak is a meaty guy, so for Meier to dumptruck him like that says a lot about his strength. Which is great for the Devils, who are otherwise a smaller, less physical hockey team.
