BREAKING - Toronto Maple Leafs Make Major Announcement on Jake Muzzin's Future
The Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed the worst about defenseman Jake Muzzin. According to a team release, Muzzin will not play again this season or in the playoffs.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that after follow-up consultation this month with various specialists, our medical staff have determined that defenceman Jake Muzzin has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022-23 regular season and playoffs as he recovers from a cervical spine injury."
Muzzin hasn't played since October 17th, when he logged under 10 minutes against the Arizona Coyotes. Muzzin's career has sat in jeopardy ever since, and this news affirms those concerns.
Toronto has placed Muzzin on long-term injured reserve, so his salary is lifted and gives GM Kyle Dubas the ability to add (see: Ryan O'Reilly). But this is a huge loss for the Leafs.
Muzzin's voice is critical in the Leafs' dressing room, and having won two Stanley Cups, his experience in the playoffs would have been crucial. Unfortunately, he will only be able to provide moral support.
