Ovechkin announces the passing of his father Mikhail
Some sad news to report on this Wednesday. In a post on his Instagram account this morning, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin announced that his father, Mikhail, has passed away.

"Today my father passed away... I thank everyone for their support, but I ask you to be understanding and not disturb my family at such a difficult time for us! Thank you" Ovechkin said.
On Tuesday, Ovechkin was granted a leave of absence from the Washington Capitals due to a family matter and the health of a loved one. Ovechkin returned back home to Russia yesterday.
