Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is set to sit down with his agent Pat Brisson this weekend, amid the NHL All-Star festivities, to discuss his options going forward.

The pending unrestricted free agent told reporters on Thursday that he wants to remain a Red Wing, but negotiations on an extension need to be done.

"I've said it all along, and I stand by it: I really see myself as a Red Wing. (But) there's contract negotiating to be done," Larkin said. "This is my first time in this position as an unrestricted free agent. But I doubt contracts really ever go smoothly until they're done."

There has been plenty of speculation in recent weeks about Dylan Larkin and his future in Detroit, including that contract talks have not happened and another stating that the Red Wings offered him and eight-year deal with an AAV of $8 million. Larkin said that he doesn't read into those reports because 'people are just fishing and speculating'.

"It just seems people are fishing and speculating," Larkin said.. "I don't really want my business out there. I understand we're in the spotlight and fans want to know. They deserve to know."

He added, "But I think it's not really the most truthful, you know? It's just speculation, and I don't really read into that too much."

Larkin, 26, is enjoying another successful season and is nearly a point-per-game player at the All-Star break. In 47 games, the Waterford (Michigan) native has 43 points (15 goals, 28 assists), 12 penalty minutes and is a plus-one.

Should the Red Wings try to lock up their captain long-term or if they are unable to get a deal done in the next couple of weeks, should they try to trade him before March 3rd? Have your say in the poll below.
