Ahead of their Sunday afternoon showdown with the Washington Capitals, the Toronto Maple Leafs held a celebration for captain
John Tavares' 1,000th NHL game. The game marks his 430th with the club after he signed as a free agent in 2018.
In his 1,000 career games, Tavares has totaled 412 goals and 533 assists for 945 points - and counting. As physically demanding as NHL hockey is on its players, 1,000 games is no small feat.
It's a tremendous milestone that only 374 players had reached before him. Just 32, it would be wholly unsurprising to see Tavares reach the 1,500-game mark in his career. Assuming he plays out the rest of this season and all 82 games for the next 6 seasons, he would eclipse that total at the age of 38.
I say he does it.
