The Edmonton Oilers offseason acquisition of
Klim Kostin from the St. Louis Blues isn't discussed nearly enough. When the
Oilers traded center Dmitri Samorukov for Kostin, nobody really batted an eye, as the two had played a combined 47 NHL games at the time.
But man, oh man, has
Klim Kostin won the hearts of Oilers fans. With his strong play, willingness to drop the gloves, and certain off-ice ventures, Kostin has found a home in Edmonton.
First,
Kostin dummied Edmonton reporter Jim Matheson in an afternoon media session, which seriously endeared Oilers fans to him. He dropped the gloves with Kings forward
Brendan Lemieux, which folks seemed to love.
His latest feature is sure to win over the last remaining Oilers fans who have yet to jump on his bandwagon. A Calgary Flames fan showed up to a meet-and-greet wearing a Flames' jersey, and Kostin refused to take a photo with the fan until he switched jerseys. He even gave the fan the jersey off his back in exchange for a photo. Great moment:

The Battle of Alberta never stops, not even in peacetime. Oilers fans are sure to love this one.
In 33 games with Edmonton, Kostin has scored 13 points (9g, 4a) and 43 PIMs. Perhaps most noteworthy about Kostin's play is the fact that he's a non-liability bottom-six forward who scores at a decent rate per sixty-minutes.
Which is really the bare minimum that team needs with
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl doing that thing they do where they score a zillion points.
