HC Ambri-Piotta prematurely celebrates Spengler Cup win...TWICE (video)

The 2022 Spengler Cup Final was held on Saturday as Swiss-based team HC Ambri-Piotta took on Czech-based team HC Sparta Prague.

The game was tied 2-2 through three periods and went to overtime. Overtime solved nothing, which meant the 2022 Spengler Cup was to be decided by a shootout. The shootout in the Spengler Cup and international hockey is a bit different than North American fans are used to with the NHL. Instead of three shooters, there are five.

During the shootout, HC Ambri-Piotta prematurely celebrated their victory..TWICE. First, after his goaltender made a save, Dominic Zwerger jumped off the bench early, but little did he know, the game was not over.

Then, HC Ambri-Piotta thought their goaltender made a save to clinch the title, but the puck hit off his glove and in the net. Several HC Ambri-Piotta players jumped on the ice, but had to go back to the bench, as the shootout was going to continue.

Finally, with their fifth shot of the shootout, Inti Pestoni scored and gave HC Ambri-Piotta their first-ever Spengler Cup championship.
