After scoring a hat trick earlier this week against the Chicago Blackhawks and bringing career goal total to 800, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has filed a new trademark as he chases Wayne Gretzky's record.

The trademark Ovechkin created is called, 'THE GR8 CHASE'. Ovechkin's family, the NHL, NHLPA and Washington Capitals all worked together to make the logo, which is set to be available for purchase on merchandise before tonight's game against the Dallas Stars.

Ovechkin, 37, currently sits one goal back of tying Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe for second all-time, while he remains 94 goals back from tying Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 career goals.

The Moscow native still has plenty of time to not only tie Gretzky's record, but also surpass him as he has three years remaining on his contract following the 2022-23 campaign. If Tuesday's game against Chicago was any indication, 'The Great 8' is not slowing down anytime soon.
