The Colorado Avalanche announced on Monday that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract, worth $750,000, for the remainder of the 2022-23 season with former third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk.
Galchenyuk, 28, initially joined the Avalanche on a professional try-out contract (PTO) for training camp, but after one pre-season game, he suffered an injury and the team released him, but didn't rule out the possibility of signing him once he recovered.
Earlier this month, the Milwaukee native signed a PTO with the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles and performed quite well. In seven games, he put up seven points (three goals, four assists), two penalty minutes and was a plus-four.
He spent the 2021-22 season with the Arizona Coyotes, where he had 21 points (six goals, 15 assists), 32 penalty minutes and was a minus-11 in 60 games.
It's unclear when Galchenyuk will make his Colorado Avalanche debut, but it's possible it could come either tomorrow night in Winnipeg against the Jets or Thursday in Buffalo against the Sabres.
