Alex Goligoski of the Minnesota Wild knows he's on the tail-end of his career. The 37-year-old has spent a lot of time this season so far as a healthy scratch. But he certainly made the most of being inserted into the Wild's lineup Saturday night, scoring the overtime winner for a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. It just do happened that Goligoski had a bunch of family and friends in attendance at the game as Minnesota was celebrating his 1000th matchup in the NHL. In a postgame interview, Goligoski tried his best to hold back tears as he talked about what this moment meant to him.
"I'm emotional right now," said Goligoski when asked what scoring the OT goal meant to him. "It's been an awesome night."
At one point, Goligoski took a moment to say sorry for the shaking in his voice as he tried to control his emotions. I'm guessing no one at the Xcel Energy Center required the apology. A great moment for Goose and for hockey fans of all teams.
