The former second round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues back in 2011 had his share of struggles for ice-time and relevance in the NHL. From his 2013 debut with the Blues to his last season with the Capitals who had claimed him on waivers, Jaskin was bottom-six NHL forward, a grinder with skill on deep teams. In August of 2019, the Russian-born Czech national signed a one-year deal with HC Dynamo Moscow of the KHL.
The contract was a boon for both sides. While Jaskin's line mate Vadim Shipachyov led the league with 65 points, Jaskin received the KHL's Golden Stick Award for the 2019-2020 season, the equivalent of the NHL's Hart Trophy. In 58 games, Jaskin scored 31 goals and added 32 assists. For a player who averaged 0.23 PPG over 303 NHL games, quite the improvement.
Don't look for Jaskin in the NHL anytime soon. The 27-year-old re-upped with Dynamo for two more years in April. Terms were not disclosed.
