“We have enjoyed our long-lasting partnership with the Hershey Bears and are excited to extend our affiliation,” said Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan.
The Bears have been affiliated with the Capitals for the last 15 seasons. They have been an extremely successful organization in those 15 seasons, qualifying for the playoffs 12 times, including back to back Calder Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010. They have reached the Calder Cup Finals in five of those 15 seasons as well, with the most recent being in 2015-16.
“Hershey has a tremendous history within the American Hockey League. They are well-run and a first-class organization. We believe the franchise's winning culture provides our prospects with the best opportunity to develop.”
The Bears had one of the leagues best attendance marks for the 2019-20 season, averaging 8753 fans per game at the Giant Center. They have also led the AHL in overall attendance in 12 of the last 14 seasons.
