Nick Suzuki erupts after Canadiens choke away Game 6 in Montreal
Nick Suzuki didn't sugarcoat it Saturday night. After a 3-8 collapse to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 6, the Canadiens captain ripped his team's effort on home ice.
The series is now tied 3-3. Game 7 goes Monday in Buffalo, and the Habs just handed their crowd a five-goal beating before climbing on the plane.
Suzuki has been Montreal's engine all postseason. 12 points in 13 games, four goals, eight assists, plus two power-play markers driving the top unit.
But the captain's plus-minus tells the other side of the story. He's gone minus-5 through this run, with the Habs bleeding goals against during his shifts when the structure breaks.
Saturday was the cleanest example. Eight goals against at the Bell Centre. The kind of game where nobody on the bench looks each other in the eye.
Martin St-Louis facing his biggest decision of the postseason
Martin St-Louis now has 48 hours to decide what version of his team shows up in Buffalo. The Canadiens went 24-9-8 on the road this season. That number matters Monday.
Cole Caufield is sitting at four goals and nine points in the series, but a -7 rating that screams about the matchups he's losing. Slafkovsky is at minus-8. The top six is producing and hemorrhaging at the same time.
Lane Hutson has been the quiet steady force. Two goals, 11 assists, plus-3 in the playoffs while logging massive minutes against Buffalo's top line.
Ivan Demidov has earned more rope, too. The 20-year-old is plus-3 over his last five, with two goals and three helpers. He's been one of the few Habs trending up as this series got uglier.
So here's the question. Does Suzuki's locker-room shot land as a wake-up call, or does it land as a captain managing the narrative because he saw what we all saw?
