At the end of this season Maxi Domi can be a restricted free agent, but there has not been any talk of a new contract. Right now, contract negotiations are not his priority. He plans to stay with the Montreal Canadiens and is currently focusing on the health of his family and friends.

Domi is in his second season with the Canadiens and intends to stay with them “for a long time.” He was acquired by the Canadiens in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes for Alex Galchenyuk on June 15, 2018. In the 2018-19 season, he had an NHL career-high 72 points and was third this season with 44 points when the coronavirus pause began.

On Thursday, Domi said, “All I can really tell you is that I want to be with Montreal, I want to be here. I love playing in Montreal, I love my teammates, I love this team and I love this city.”

Domi has his sights set on his first Stanley Cup. He has been consistently working on improving as a player and a teammate, but is mostly concerned about his family during this time.

“I couldn't care less about an NHL contract right now. I want to make sure we're doing everything we can to stay safe and get ready for whenever things come back to somewhat normal. I'm making sure I'm staying in contact with my family and my family is staying safe. That's what means most to me right now.”
