The QMJHL announced this Tuesday the winner of the Paul-Dumont trophy, awarded to the personality of the year on the Courteau circuit. It's no surprise that, for the second consecutive year, the honor went to Alexis Lafreniere.

The captain of the Rimouski Oceanic therefore joins another former captain of the Rimouski organization, Sidney Crosby, who also won this honor in two consecutive seasons, in 2004 and 2005.

Lafrenière was in competition for this award with Chicoutimi Sagueneens' forward Dawson Mercer and Charlottetown Islanders goalkeeper Matthew Welsh.

The Paul Dumont Trophy, which has been awarded since 1990, aims to annually honor a player who has had a positive media impact, in addition to helping to improve the image of the league. It is not surprising that Lafrenière was the media face of the QMJHL during the last campaign with all the pressure he had all season to be at the top of hopes for the next draft.

The young man from St-Eustache, Quebec, has already won the Jean-Beliveau trophy, awarded to the best scorer in the league, with his 112 points this season. He could also win two other prizes, as he is also a finalist for the Michael-Bossy trophy, awarded to the best professional hope and for the Michel-Briere trophy awarded to the most valuable player in the league.

Following this awards ceremony, it will only remain to see in which NHL team he will start his career next season. Unfortunately, he will not be able to experience the draft at home at the Bell Center.
