As announced Thursday by Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen, the organization has signed rookie goaltender Elvis Merzlikins to a contract extension.

The extension is a two year contract through the 2021-22 season, with an AAV of $4 million.

Through 33 games played during the 19-20 campaign, the 26-year-old boasted an impressive 2.35 goals-against average, 923 save percentage and five shutouts.

Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen spoke on Merzlikins ability and future;

"We've believed for several years that Elvis Merzlikins was the best goaltender outside the NHL while he was playing in Switzerland and this year he has shown that he has the ability and drive to be a very good goaltender in this league.

He is quick, athletic and driven to succeed and we are excited to see what the future holds for Elvis and our hockey club."
