Toronto Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman made it clear on a conference call Thursday just how badly he wants to remain a member of the Leafs organization.

“I would love to stay in Toronto,” Hyman said. “It's where I grew up. I want to be a Leaf for a long time.”

Hyman has one more season left on his contract which pays him $2.25 million per season. The 27-year-old explained he is very happy that he isn't currently on an expiring deal, so he does not have to worry about negotiating a new deal with all that is currently going on in the world.

“Everything will probably be sorted out with the cap by then and whatnot,” he said to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

The NHL pause came at an unfortunate time for Hyman, as he was having his best season in the NHL to date. In just 51 games played, he had tied his career high in goals with 21 and had 37 points, which is just four shy of his career high 41, set last season.
