There was quite a bit of chatter in the hockey world Wednesday, as it was announced former Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters signed a two-year deal to coach the KHL's Avtomobilist.

Peters was fired by the Flames earlier this season after one of his former players, Akim Aliu, accused Peters of directing racial slurs toward him while they were members of the AHL's Rockford IceHogs 10 years prior.

“Hockey is for all. I believe in second chances for everyone, that we can all find forgiveness in our heart, and that real, positive change is coming if we continue to work together,” said Aliu. “I don't resent a man for finding work, but I will fight to make sure those same opportunities are available to everyone, on and off the ice, regardless of the race or ethnicity.”

At the time of Aliu's accusation, Peters did apologize but the damage was already done, and the Flames fired him shortly after. Aliu has also been on record saying he believes Peters ruined his chances at an NHL career.
