With the onset of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, sports leagues and fans across the globe have felt the effects, including season suspensions and cancellations, as well as self-isolation for professional athletes.

As the pandemic continues, so does speculation. When, if ever, will we have sports back?

Well, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading medical expert for the Trump Administration's Coronavirus Task Force, believes that with meticulous monitoring of athletes health status, and empty arenas, professional sports could see a 2020 return.

Fauci when asked about the return of professional sports by Snapchat's Peter Hamby;

“There's a way of doing that. Nobody comes to the stadium. Put (teams) in big hotels wherever you want to play. Keep them very well surveilled.

But have them tested, like every week.

And make sure they don't wind up infecting each other or their family and just let them play the season out.”

Fauci would also comment on his personal desire for a professional sports return;

I mean people say 'Well you can't play without spectators.'

Well, I think you probably get enough buy-in from people who are dying to see a baseball game. Particularly me: I'm living in Washington (D.C.). We have the world champion Washington Nationals.

I want to see them playing again."

While all professional sports in the U.S. are still suspended, it seems the Trump Administration and sports leagues across the country are looking aspiringly towards the future. Both the NBA and MLB are exploring options which would feature their respective leagues playing in Arizona (MLB) and Las Vegas (NBA.)

On Tuesday, Trump announced he's seeking advice from several prominent U.S. sports executives about how to best end the lockdown that the COVID-19 pandemic prompted. The newly formed panel includes NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB commissioners Adam Silver, Roger Goodell, Gary Bettman, and Rob Manfred. UFC president Dana White and WWE CEO Vince McMahon have also been named.

Though talks continue regarding the return of professional sports, medical experts, including Fauci, are cautioning against a return to normalcy too soon.
