Bill Peters, who was essentially forced from his head coaching position with the Calgary Flames after accusations of racism and physical abuse towards players, has landed a new job. According to the KHL itself, Peters has signed a two-year contract to coach Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

“I think as time goes on we all grow and improve and become better versions of ourselves, and I'm no different than that. You learn from all the experiences that you're in, and you become better,” Peters said during a video conference call with Russian media.

“It's no different right now, going through a very trying time right now in the world with the global pandemic, and I believe we're going to come out of this, and when we come out of this people are going to be better people for it and more passionate and compassionate toward each other and more patient.”

Peters resigned as head coach of the Calgary Flames on November 29th not long after Akim Aliu revealed that Peters had used the N-word during conversations with him while he was playing with the Rockford Icehogs 10 years earlier. Peters did not deny the allegations. Not long after, Michal Jordan also accused Peters of kicking him on the bench while he was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes and punching another unnamed player. The story was later corroborated by Rod Brind'Amour, now Hurricanes head coach and an assistant at the time of those incidents.

While Peters did resign his position, it's almost certain he would have been fired eventually. The NHL later released a zero tolerance policy for this type of behaviour in hope of changing the culture of the game.
