Pegula Sports and Entertainment (PSE), the company that owns the Buffalo Sabres, Rochester Americans and the Buffalo Bills, has decided to fire 21 executives, according to The Athletic. Those firings, which The Athletic stresses are not furloughs but full-on terminations, include several executives that have been with the Sabres for quite some time.

Included in the terminations are John Sinclair, the vice president of tickets and service with the Sabres. He had worked for the team since 1998. Chris Bandura, the vice president of communications, had been with the Sabres since 2005. Jennifer Van Rysdam, the vice president of live events, was also fired.

PSE is owned by billionaire Terry Pugula and his wife Kim.

"There is no way to adequately express how difficult these decisions were for Terry and me,” President and CEO Kim Pegula told The Athletic. “It is not something we took lightly, and we are fully aware of the hardships that exist across our community and country right now. We feel for all the employees and families who will be affected, and we hope that we can all return to full strength in the coming weeks and months.”

PSE had earlier decided to buck the trend of paying arena employees during the shutdown of the NHL, instead choosing to terminate its hospitality department completely.

The Pegulas had earlier committed $1.2 million to the Sabres and Bills foundations to help the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
