There are still many questions remaining regarding the possible resumption of the 2019-20 season and playoffs but one of them, at least, appears to be answered. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the NHL is willing to delay the start of next season in order to finish this one, if that's what required. It has also worked out ways to ensure that 2020-21 is not shortened due to the delayed start.

"The NHL is willing to delay the start of next season until November in order to finish off this season if possible with summer hockey. NHL believes they can play a full season next year starting in November, cancel the All Star Game and bye week, play playoffs into late June '21," LeBrun posted on Twitter.

There are many fans, perhaps most, who would have no issue with the cancellation of the All-Star Game and bye week. It is viewed by many as a waste of time as the game has no bearing on the regular season whatsoever.

This could be a good option for the league as the fairest way to decide who gets into the playoffs is to finish the rest of the regular season. Of course, at this time there's no guarantee any of this can or will happen any time soon. It's been a month now since play was suspended and, in many ways, we're still very much in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic.
