When the Montreal Canadiens placed Shea Weber on injured reserve recently, it was bad news for the team as they had lost one of their best players while trying to get into a playoff position before it was too late. However, a new update on the situation from Nick Kypreos is making the situation seem much worse than anyone expected.
According to Kypreos, not only is Weber likely done for the season, but his playing future is now in jeopardy. Kypreos states Weber's injury is related to his foot that was surgically repaired in 2018 and surgery seems unavoidable at this point due to swelling. The Canadiens' captain missed most of the 2017-18 season after suffering a tendon tear in his right foot.

If Kypreos's sources are correct, this is a huge blow to Weber and the Montreal Canadiens. Weber was in the midst of a return-to-form season, recording 13 goals and 34 points in 55 games.
Weber still has six seasons remaining on his contract following this one. He makes $7.86 million a year. It's worth noting that should he be forced into retirement, the Nashville Predators would be facing a recapture penalty on their salary cap after signing him to a 14 year contract in 2012.
