2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship Day 8 Recap

There were plenty of goals scored on Day 8 at the 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Finland, including Germany putting up nine against Italy.

German forward Lukas Reichel made a big impact on Friday's game in his first of the tournament. The Chicago Blackhawks 2020 first round pick scored a goal and added an assist as Germany defeated Italy by a score of 9-4.

Germany's goals: Daniel Fischbuch (x2), Yasin Ehliz (x2), Alexander Karachun (x2), Kai Wissmann, Lukas Reichel, Samuel Soramies.
Italy's goals: Alex Petan, Tomasso Traversa, Luca Frigo, Daniel Mantenuto.

Over in Tampere, the hosts Finland took on Great Britain. Niklas Friman led the way with two points, including his first of the tournament, as Finland shutout Great Britain, 6-0. Goaltender Jussi Olkinuora made ten saves for his second shutout of the tournament.

In the second game of the day in Helsinki, Kazakhstan and Slovakia played in a physical affair. Kazakhstan led the game 2-1 after the first period, but the Slovaks stormed back in the second. Kazakh forward Pavel Akolzin received a five-minute major for charging and Slovakia took advantage, scoring twice on the powerplay to take a 3-2 lead. Shortly after, top draft prospect Juraj Slafkovsky made a nice move around the Kazakh defenceman, was in alone and hooked. Slafkovsky received a penalty shot and scored to make it 4-2 Slovakia. The Slovaks held on to win the game, 4-3.

Slovakia's goals: Martin Fehervary, Juraj Slafkovsky, Adam Liska, Andrej Kollar.
Kazakhstan's goals: Kirill Panyukov (x2), Dmitri Shevchenko.

In an important game to potentially avoid relegation next week, Latvia took on Austria and it went all the way to the shootout. The Latvians ultimately prevailed, 4-3, to take an important two points.

Latvia's goals: Rudolfs Balcers (x2), Rihards Bukarts.
Austria's goals: Thomas Raffl, Benjamin Nissner, Dominique Heinrich.
