Fighting is extremely rare in international hockey, mainly due to the tough rules by the IIHF. Per the IIHF rule book, any player involved in a fight is given a five minute major, a match penalty and is ejected from the game.
On the opening day of the 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship, Finland's Saku Maenalanen and Norway's Magnus Brekke engaged in a fight following a board battle.
