The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship, set to begin this December, is without a host currently, as the International Ice Hockey Federation chose to pull the event from Russia due to their invasion of Ukraine.

As a result, Halifax and Moncton are looking to capitalize on the opportunity, as they are preparing a joint bid to host the event. If successful, the games would take place at the Scotiabank Centre as well as the Avenir Centre.

Any and all bids to host the event are due next week, and the winner is expected to be decided on in April. The 2022 event took place in Edmonton and Red Deer, but was cancelled shortly after starting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has since been re-scheduled for August.
