Auston Matthews Reaches Historic Goal Scoring Mark
In Thursday's 7-3 victory over the middling Winnipeg Jets, Auston Matthews hit a Maple Leafs' milestone untouched for almost 30 years. In just Toronto's 66th match of the season, AM34 scored his 50th goal; no Maple Leaf has done it since Dave Andreychuk in 93-94.
Auston Matthews is cementing himself in the "Top 3 players on Earth" discussion. He's the quickest player to hit 50 goals in a season since 95-96. No player has more goals since the start of his career, including his four-goal debut vs. Ottawa. His defensive game has never been stronger, and he's never had more to prove come playoffs. He's a special player.
