Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Defenseman to Entry-Level Deal

The team announced today it has signed D Mikko Kokkonen to a Future Entry-Level Contract; the deal kicks in at the beginning of next season. The deal is three years, just a shade under $850,000 & speaks the team's interest in bolstering their defensive depth.

Kokkonen, the 5'11" left-hander's offensive numbers do not jump off the scoresheet, but the scouting report is that he rarely makes mistakes, keeps his shifts short, never runs out of gas, and has a sound release on his wrist shot. He was a 3rd round draft selection for Toronto & is a World Junior Gold & Bronze medalist.
