Back in the Fall, Icethetics reported that the NHL will be reviving the Reverse Retro jersey program and now it appears that they will in fact return.
According to Sean Shapiro of The Athletic, the National Hockey League will be bringing back the Reverse Retro jersey program for the 2022-23 season, with all-new designs.
"Honestly, I hope they do it every other season, make it a thing like that," one team executive told The Athletic in October. "Let us keep making new jerseys, fans love jerseys, give us something to sell that's new every other year."
Official details about the new jerseys haven't been released yet, but info on a couple of teams has been leaked. In early February, a YouTube channel called 'Post2Post', who mainly discusses NHL jerseys, revealed that sources have told him that the Montreal Canadiens will wear an Expos-themed uniform, while the New York Islanders will bring back 'the Fisherman' from the 90s.
The Reverse Retro jersey program was introduced in Fall 2020 for the 2021 NHL season. All 31 teams at the time wore a uniform that was either a twist on a team's retro jersey, an inverted colour scheme with the team's current logo (ex. Montreal), or it could be a retro logo, on different retro colours (ex. Los Angeles). It could also be a retro design with a retro logo, but in the team's current colours (ex. Colorado). Each team wore their Reverse Retro jersey two-to-six times throughout the 2021 season.
