New York Islanders defenseman Zdeno Chara recently tied Chris Chelios for the most games played by a defenseman in NHL history on Tuesday, and on Thursday he will likely break the record.
In 24 seasons in the NHL, Chara has played for four teams, and he will likely find a new, fifth team for his final home before ultimately retiring. Isles GM Lou Lamoriello is waiting for the veteran D-man to break the record before moving him, and there are multiple teams interested in his services. The Bruins could be interested in a reunion with their former captain, and the Penguins or Maple Leafs could take a shot at him as well.
Chara's production is obviously not where it was when he was younger, but he could provide value as a physical, net-clearing veteran that could help boost a team's locker-room vibe. In 42 games this year, the 44-year-old has seven assists, 54 blocks, and 84 hits in 18:29 TOI.
