Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews finally reveals the details of his illness, resumes training

The past season was a particularly tough one for three-time Stanley Cup Champion Jonathan Toews, who missed the entire season with a mystery illness, leaving many with nothing to do but to speculate, given the lack of information available.

While teammate Patrick Kane had provided a bit of an update on his good friend's status this season, there still weren't many questions answered, other than that Toews was not at risk of being forced into retirement and that he did plan to play again as soon as next season.

On Wednesday, the Blackhawks' captain took to Twitter with a special video message to all of his fans to let them know that he is on the mend and has begun training for his return in 2021-22.

The caption on the video he tweeted out read:

"I haven't been too vocal about the things I went through this year. I appreciate the understanding and support and wanted to share this message on where I'm at."

Toews seemed in good spirits after a challenging year where he dealt with a condition that doctors called "Chronic Immune Response Syndrome", which prevented his body from recovering and caused his immune system to malfunction. It was fantastic to see him back out on the ice working on some puck skills and firing some shots.

The Blackhawks came fairly close, but ultimately missed the postseason this year, but with the captain appearing to be gearing up for a 2021-22 return, the Hawks will look forward to perhaps some better fortunes and a potential playoff berth next season.

From all of us here at Markerzone.com, we're thrilled to hear that Toews is doing much better and want to wish him all the best as he works to regain his strength, conditioning and proper body mechanics en route to a triumphant return.
