The Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev returned to practice after a heartbreaking injury that occured in February.

The defenseman was injured in a game and had to be stretchered off the ice, on his first game back from another major injury:

"Oh man, why me? Why now? After all the games missed, coming back and getting injured again, feels unfair, feels terrible. Trying to stay calm and positive, but it's impossible. After doing everything right I get this. The universe is unpredictable I guess, and has its own plans, but f*** the universe man, I know I'll come back stronger and I know I'll play better than before, but it's tough right now, and it's gonna be tough tomorrow. We all fight our own battles, and this is mine. I'll win, always do. Pain meds are good tho, if I was in the forest by myself I'd be dead, crazy innit?! Wanted to write how I feel here, don't know why, but just wanted to let people that care about me know! I appreciate all of your messages. Thanks to the medical staff."

Earlier today, Sergachev was back on the ice for the first time:

"Sergachev on the ice in the red, no-contact jersey. Had surgery to stabilize fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg just 60 days ago."

The defenseman opened up on his return to practice:

Sergachev: «I felt good. I loved it. Being out there with the guys, it's much better than just being by myself on the ice or with a couple guys. I just wanted to get out there just to see where I'm at speed-wise, not just the legs, but thinking and stuff like that.»

He also shared his thoughts on returning in time for the playoffs:

Sergachev on targeting a playoff return: «I mean, yeah. I'm trying to come back as fast as possible, but you never know with injuries. It's gone up and down. It's kind of a roller coaster. One day you feel good. The other day it hurts. We'll see.»

If Sergachev ends up returning to the lineup for the playoffs, the Lightning will definitely be one of the toughest teams to beat.

More to come.
